Synopsis

Album Description
Boston rockers The Takers officially began in February 2000, born of the ashes of the Daviess County Panthers, the In Out and Red Bliss. After a summer and fall playing shows and writing songs, the Takers went to Fort Apache to record the EP Never Get Out of These Blues Alive. The Takers have played extensively in their hometown, sharing the stage with the likes of Pere Ubu, Six Finger Satellite, Murder City Devils and the Melvins. Currently, the Takers are planning a November tour with San Francisco noisemakers Oxbow and finishing up a full lengther, recorded by Mr. Stuart Sikes at Easley/McCain Studios in Memphis.

CD Reviews

Fun House?
03/05/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"For all of you who've been complaining that there's no new, good rock anymore, I suggest you check this band out. Imagine, if you will, the Stooges as the house band in the Valley Lodge for an episode of "Twin Peaks." It's moody but not whiny, Stonsey in swaggar and presentation, bluesy but not ripping anyone off in that vein, loud but not for volume's sake.
While I believe that this recording betrays their dynamic live set (hey, they opened for Mission of Burma, so they've got to be doing something right), it's still good (keep an eye out for a new release in the summer). Unlike many bands who could could count the aforementioned Stooges and the Stranglers as influences, there's never an air of machismo. In fact, it's nearly the opposite. In a town full of tough-acting rockabilly punks and smack-talking mods, the Takers, by aligning themselves with neither camp, stand ready to shut them all up."
