This is where white Detroit rock 'n' roll began. The group had a US Top Twenty hit in 1958 with Poor Boy, a Number 82 US hit with Flamingo Express in 1961 and a regional hit with Your Faded Love in 1964 (also recorded as a vocal by Bobby Rydell). They backed up Del Shannon on several of his hits including Keep Searchin' and Little Town Flirt.Group member George Katsakis played sax on Jack Scott's early Leroy and My True Love records. Dennis Coffey played on eleven of The Royaltones' 45 while renowned bass player Bob Babbitt also played on twenty-four of the band's 45s.The Royaltones recorded 26 tracks during their six-year career. The releases were on the Jubilee, Penthouse, Goldisc, Mala, Twirl and Warwick labels.Compilation by Pipeline magazine's Dave Burke and Alan Taylor.
