"The Young Picnickers was released by the Pearlfishers in 1999. It followed in much the same style as "Tall Poppies" but added more keyboards and production but with slightly less-dominant giotar. Here are some of highlights from the album:



The first song, We're Gonna Save The Summer, has a Beach Boys style chorus and a Crosby, Stills and Nash influence on the verses.



An Ordinary Day Out In The Suburbs is slightly reminiscent of the song, Abandoned Luncheonette, by Hall and Oates (from 1973).



We'll Get By has both Carole King and Burt Bacharach influences in both its production and its chord structiures.



The title track, The Young Picnickers, is an instrumental (there is usually one instrumental per album) and pays homage to the Beach Boys instrumental, Summer Means New Love (from 1965),



David Vs. Godzilla is one of the bonus tracks on this expanded edition of the album.

The song has a similar feel to the song, Windmills, from the Toad The Wet Sprocket album, Dulcinea.



Probably my favotite song on the album is the vibrant, Every Day I Read Your Stars.



Although I like thisC.D. slightly less than the others, it silll garners a five-star rating



The following is a brief overview of the band:



The Pearlfishers, from Glasgow, are an alternative pop band with retro influences from the late sixties and early seventies. They are perhaps THE MOST MELODIC BAND IN THE WORLD! Their intelligent lyrics express well the vicissitudes of contemporary life. These, combined with strong melodic hooks, interesting chord progressions and tempo changes pique one's aural senses and leave you wanting more! Their musical influences have been favorably compared to Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Todd Rundgren and Burt Bacharach. David Scott, the chief "Pearlie" (composer, vocalist, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist- whew!) has un uncanny sense of melody which comes along only once in awhile. Their music generally remains warm, sunny and infectious even in the midst of their occasional "dark lyrics." And in spite of their musical influences, the Pearlfishers maintain their own distinctive sound."

This is just the most gorgeous c.d.

"After discovering them on an album called "Indigenous Tribes" that I picked up while in Scotland I probably would never have ever heard of this great band. I agree with everything the first reviewer wrote...feel good sounds and inspired lyrics by a great musician David Scott. You can hear a track from the Pearlfishers on a new album dedicated to the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson called "Caroline, Now!"."
