CD ReviewsThe McCampbell Brothers Were The Real Deal! retro_styled_crooner | Tustin, CA USA | 09/08/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "Recruited producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, L.A. & Babyface, and the Lewis brothers from Atlantic Starr did help make the McCampbell Brothers debut a soul, urban, club/dance success. The McCampbell brothers made their debut as The Mac Band and did get two very strong songs in the R&B chart topping new jack swing styled "Roses Are Red" and "Stalemate." They never again came close to landing a big record, and are virtually a forgotten group. The group consisted of the McCampbell brothers Ray, Derrick, Charles and Kelvin (from Dallas by way of Flint), backed by bassist Ray Flippin, keyboardist Rodney Frazier, guitarist Mark Harper, and drummer Steve Fuller (formed Mac Band in Los Angeles)." Rare Mac Band Album retro_styled_crooner | 04/07/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "Decent 1988 offering, sounds a little dated. First 3 tracks Jealous, Stuck, and Roses are Red produced by L.A. & Babyface. The remaining tracks are produced by Atlantic Starr and The Family Stand (none are produced by Jam & Lewis). Clocking in at only 40 minutes it's surprising that the production by Atlantic Starr and The Family Stand easily matches the LaFace tracks."
