"The Light Crust Doughboys and rockabilly??? You bet your blue suede shoes!!! It's a historical treat and an audio treat to hear The Doughboys rockin' in a collection of all up-tempo gems----some old, some new...It's as if Bob Wills came back to earth as a guitar man instead of a fiddle man!! Man, to hear these western swing and early rock classics with The Doughboys' classic instrumentation and just the right amount of vocal slap-back echo is too much!!! Yea, uh, huh.....I really like it!!! The sensational Salty Dogs bring just the right amount of authentic hillbilly boogie to the table, and The Doughboys' and Art Greenhaw's fabulous vocals are the rightful heirs to Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins........and of course, Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan...Western Swing, blues, gospel, dixieland, rockabilly-------what will these Boys conquer next----reggae??!!! Swing and roots rockers, this is a must have!!!"
Exuberant, brilliant rockabilly

"This CD is a total knock-out, with the happiest music this side of a dance hall in heaven, and absolutely brilliant musicianship and vocals. The impulse to kick off your shoes and do some fancy footwork to it is irresistible, as each and every track delivers great rhythms and flawless renditions of some well known tunes, and Art Greenhaw's original, "It's No Sin to Rock".
The Grammy Award winning Light Crust Doughboys have been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and you will find no better band in this genre. The Doughboys are: Smokey Montgomery (banjo/guitar) and Art Greenhaw (vocals, electric guitar, bass) who both co-produced this CD, Bill Simmons (piano), Jerry Elliott (vocals, electric guitar), John Walden and Jim Baker (violins).
This CD also includes the talents of The Salty Dogs, who are: Robert Shumy (vocals, guitar), F.G. Hacker (electric guitar), and Manfred Chromy (bass), and on "Hello Mary Lou", Tom Brumley plays steel.
Though every musician is superb on this recording, I will mention two that are astounding: Bill Simmons on keyboard, who gets his own turn on "The B.S. Boogie", also shines throughout the CD, and Art Greenhaw's vocal talent. His voice has the depth and richness of Elvis...that dark Hershey bar warmed in the sun kind of sound...but with an extra vibrant ring to it. It is simply a phenomenal voice, with artistry in his phrasing and interpretation, and of course, it is ideal for the Elvis numbers on this CD, the rousing "Jailhouse Rock" and "That's All Right Mama".
If you like rockabilly, traditional country, or just want to lift your spirits with some fabulous music, you won't regret buying this CD. The sound is excellent, and total playing time is 35'21.
