Synopsis
Album Description Nearly all of the songs on "Ho! For the Kansas Plains" could have been heard on the vast plains of Kansas Territory from 1854-1861. The Free Staters strive to be as accurate as possible in recreating that sound, and only play original period instruments or reproductions of those instruments. You'll hear a fiddle with nylong strings, a fretless minstrel banjo with cat gut strings and bones made from the ribs of a buffalo. These songs are timeless, and most folks will recognize many of them, having heard them in music class many years ago. We hope you enjoy! Similar CDs

CD ReviewsThe Great Push West NadMan | Houston , USA | 09/30/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you are a fan of the American Musical Traditon this is a very nice compilation of mid-19th century popular music that would have been current among the pioneers pushing West...played with gusto and enthusiasm...a nice Cd and well worth the price"
