CD ReviewsBest Of 2008 A. Pecor | New York, NY | 07/08/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Stumbling across The Envy Corps is one of the best accidents I've had in a while. I only had to listen to Dwell twice to know that it was going to be one of my favorite albums this year. Radiohead, The Verve, Modest Mouse, Jeff Buckley, Death Cab, Coldplay's first album--the comparisons to all and more will abound. But there's more going on here than just appropriating sounds from a bunch of other artists; this Ames, Iowa group (by way of the UK) works those likeable elements (beautiful melodies, great guitars and keyboards, interesting songwriting, creative handclaps and other experimental sounds, a voice that ranges up into falsetto, check check check) together to create something new that I actually needed in my music collection. It's rare to find an album where every single track so thoroughly delivers. Really, you say? Every track is that good? Yes, holy smokes yes. Get Dwell now." Stunning Sean Flattery | Des Moines, IA | 08/14/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "Dwell is hands down one of my favorite albums and I've listened to it countless times. The big singles are Story Problem and Rhinemaidens. Both songs are incredibly catchy and serve an appetizer to the sonic feast that is the rest of the album. There's not a song here that I skip past, even after listening to it on endless repeat. There are also two b sides that didn't make the cut (Pip Pip and Pink Clouds), which is a shame since they're as good or better than any track enclosed. Both can be found on iTunes last I knew. If you like indie or melodic music, this is a must buy.
The Envy Corps is such a phenomenal group that I simply cannot understand how they aren't household names. If they keep putting out such high caliber music, they soon may be. Get in on the band, buy the album, and enjoy listing to what should be the next big thing. Great songs include: Rhindemaidens Story Problem Keys to Good Living Before the Gold Rush Walls Sylvia Wires & Wool" |
