CD Reviews

The Doors' Best Album and One of the Best Debuts of All Time
Frederick Baptist | Singapore | 10/08/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"A close look at the picture will tell you that this is not "Strange Days" as is inaccurately advertised but is indeed the debut self-titled Doors album. This version of this great seminal album that introduced the Doors to the world comes in a mini-lp sleeve replica that is well designed and is remastered by the original producer, Bruce Botnick. However, the volume levels are a lot lower than the previous German mlps version although Botnick assures us in the liner notes that this is how the album was originally intended to sound and so who am I to contradict him! This version also includes a 22-page booklet which include not only the Botnick liner notes but also all the lyrics in English and Japanese as well as 3 bonus tracks consisting of 2 versions of "Moonlight Drive" and "Indian Summer". Only "L.A. Woman" comes close to matching the brilliance of this album. No weak tracks here and the great "The End", "Light My Fire" and "Break On Through" are here. This album is a must have in any serious music collector's library only be sure to turn the volume up to get maximum benefits. Highly recommended."
