Album DescriptionWithin a year of releasing their well-received debut album "especially not love", the dambrots have returned with this impressive follow up album. Delivering fully on the promise shown on their debut, the dambrots have taken a different approach to their own brand of acoustic based music: the instrumentation is fuller, the tone is more optimistic, and the overall effect is poppier. Songwriter al james continues to explore his distinctive acoustic guitar style, while branching out with slide guitar, bass, hammond organ, and concert bells. The concert bells, in particular add an unusual and interesting quality to the sound. Singer dawn marie's vocals are even more impressive on this album than the first. On the final track "then she's gone", she hits some remarkably low notes for someone whose voice is usually so high. She has also expanded her role as percussionist, playing tambourine, triangle, shakers, and guiro. There is also the interesting use of foot stomping ("little boxes in big boxes"), and finger snapping (" a ghost of a chance"). Also noteworthy is the cover artwork. It takes the overall design of the first album, and changes the background color from magenta to red. the dambrots have stated that they intend to release eight albums; one for each letter color in their logo. The development shown from their first album to their second is dramatically clear. It will be exciting to see how this innovative band progresses as they move through the colors to their eighth album.
