Synopsis

Product Description
2009 four CD set, the ultimate edition of the British Alt-Rock band's 1985 masterpiece. For nearly 25 years, Love has been a consistent seller, endorsing it's classic status in The Cult's repertoire. Designed to cater to the more committed fan, the Omnibus Edition is presented as a limited edition four disc box set with the CD s housed in Japanese-style paper sleeves, reproducing the original vinyl cover art. Apart from the re-mastered original album the box also includes the singles, the demos and a live recording from 1985. Equal parts Psychedelic Hard Rock and New Wave Goth, the songs on Love emanate a bright guitar sheen, tight arrangements, crisp drumming and a command performance from vocalist Ian Astbury. Along with the liner notes, the 48 page book features unseen contact sheets from the album photo session and a chronology of contemporaneous quotes by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy that illuminate the status of the band at that point in their career. 45 tracks. Beggars Banquet.

CD Reviews

The sound has arrived!

"Love has been one of my favorite albums for twenty + years. As I grew older though, I became less and less impressed with the production levels. This really brings a full sound as it was always meant to be heard. The sound doesn't stop at the album itself either, it is consistent through the singles, and the live set is great too.

If you've ever loved this album, the upgrade is well worth it, one of the few upgrades of this type that really delivers. If you've never heard it, this is an incredible introductory set to the Cult."
Good Sound, Excellent Value

"I was hesitant to buy this set because the mastering on the last two releases from the cult has been atrocious (Born into This & Beyond Good and Evil). Super loud, brickwalled, clipped, zero dynamic range, heavy digital distortion, fatiguing, are some of the ways I'd describe those two albums. I listened to them once and then sold them. For more info you can google 'loudness war'.

Luckily this set does not suffer from the same terminal problem. It's not an audiophile mastering, but it is a good mastering. There is enough dynamic range so that the music has some punch to it. The drums hits do make an impact, unlike say Beyond Good and Evil where the drums make no impact whatsoever and the distortion is brutal. The bass too sound nice and full on this release, unlike the the last two releases. All in all, the guy at Loud Mastering did a good job (maybe they should rename the mastering house 'not too Loud Mastering).

The packaging is fantastic, I don't think Beggars cut any corners on this one.

So if you're a cult fan, get this before its OPP."
