"Collectables records continue to release many well known and lesser known artists and groups whose recordings would otherwise be sitting in vaults collecting dust,if it wasn't for CDs like this.
The Cookies were not a supergroup of the 60s(the list of girl groups then would fill a very big book) but the few hits they did have remain solid and very memorable numbers.
The Cookies were originally formed in 1951 and went on to do mainly session work backing many artists on the Atlantic label. When the group was intro'd to Ray Charles two of the three of them stayed to become the Raelettes. The third went on to form a new group in the early 60s.It is this incarnation of the group, and most famous one,we hear here.
All their major and minor music is here starting with their most well known hit "Chains", along with their"Don't Say Nothin' Bad About My Baby" and "Girls Grow Up faster Than Boys".All hold up exceptionally well. The other offerings here like "Foolish Little Girl" and "Softly in the Night" and "On Broadway"(where each girl takes a turn on vocals)are no slouches in the listening department either. In 1967 the group finally disbanded but they had a very good kick at the can.
If the saying big things come in small packages is true then this has to be a prime confirmation of that. This CD has only 10 tunes but each are the prime essence of what The Cookies were all about. The only thing lacking here is a discography or small bio.But at this bargain price I suppose one can't have everything. For all of you who fondly remember The Cookies and their Dimension(label)45s(blue in colour if I recall)this is the CD for you!"

"This is a no-frills cd, no booklet, just great songs from one of the great girl groups of the early '60's, one of several covered by the Beatles in their earliest days. I bought this for the 3 or 4 songs I knew by them and was surprized by a couple other songs that were enjoyable, too, like "I'm Into Something Good". Good sound quality and an excellent price. It's a no-brainer to recommend this."

Girls with a King on Their Side

"So what's not to like about some great Carole King songs? These girls were willing puppets, and they turned out 2 hot cuts, "Chains" and "Don't Say Nothin' Bad( About My Baby)", and a few minor pleasures, "Will Power" and "I Want a Boy for my Birthday." They were great background artists, much utilized in their time, but totally reliant on good material as artists. Check out the live drums on "Chains"; the man kicked butt! It was a guitar and drums song, and a great little hot record. It got plenty of radio play in the Midwest. It's all on Dimension Records, which put out Little Eva, The Jewels, and a positively funny/wonderful version of "Swinging on a Star", along with Carole King's solo stuff, (ho hum 'cause it was a bit too innocent, even for my boyish Midwestern ears.)She got better as she grew up, got burned a little, cried some tears, and did Tapestry. The rest is history. If you were a recording artist in the 60s you would be well served by having The Cookies in the studio; these girls could harmonize!"
