Product DescriptionFrom high upon a hill, a distant sibylline machine sketches out in water the blueprint for the gears which drive the force that is The Channel. You may have heard the sounds before in a lucid dream, or resonating through the paralysis of an oppressed nightmare scream. Heard more and more, both domestically and abroad, The Channel pushes onward, not out of self-serving ambition, but from the inherent drive to do so. Five songwriters, siblings, and friends have forged through the unknown territories of jaded hipsters, socialite sisters, voluntary enlisters, madams and misters; in order to bring some happiness to the broken-hearted, courage to the downtrodden, and honor to the unsung working class. The passion and determination that powers this machine derives from a well which may never go dry. The first disk, "Tales From the Two Hill Heart," is derived from the vast catalogue of the prolific songwriter Colby Pennington, who has written over 500 songs. These particular songs fell together in the well of reflections on a two hill life: the ebbs and flows, the waxing and waning, the good and the bad, and the chaos of the struggle therein. Aware of the grandeur of such themes, the songs are carefully constructed to maintain a balance between the epic feeling of life and death and the frail condition of the hearts subject to them. "Sibylline Machine" is a collection of tunes and lyrics as strange and oracular as the man who wrote them, multi-instrumentalist Jamie Reaves. These songs are stories, and although mystery prevails, the listener will find this fiction diverse and rewarding. Chuckle along with the King of Spain, or shed a tear with his second born daughters. The two albums coexist quite nicely in one package bringing stories and thoughts reflecting the complexities of life's struggles, triumphs, and the occasional corruption in the system.
