CD Reviews

Underrated R&B album worth listening to!
D. Pawl | Seattle | 06/30/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I really don't know what happened to this wonderful duo or why they broke up but when I heard The Braids' album for the first time I fell in love with their harmonies, their soulful interpretation of original songs and the covers they did ("Bohemian Rhapsody," "Young Americans," "The Wind"). There is a clean sound to their R&B/hip hop style that you don't hear on the radio these days. To be concise, it is true poetry set to music. One of my favorite songs is an original tune, "Mine is My Own." It is an affirmative song that encourages autonomy and self sufficiency. I also enjoyed their covers of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (originally done by Queen), "The Wind" (originally done by Cat Stevens), and "Young Americans" (originally done by David Bowie). Their fusion of rock and smoothe R&B harmonies make the songs almost unrecognizable in comparison to the originals. This album is a great one that didn't get the kind of publicity it should have. For me, I would best describe the duo as sweet, soulful and sexy, with voices comparable to no other singers I have ever heard.
Give them a listen!"
