"Down And Under is an effective opener to their self-titled debut album (released 2002), by far the most popular track on the album according to their website's... visitor poll. Immediately the listener knows that as far as unsigned bands go, The Better World take their work seriously - evident as they're currently hitting the playlists of numerous US radio stations.Lyrics are potent and meaningful, well written and conveyed by Matt C, with a coherent voice perhaps somewhat resembling Gavin Rossdale of Bush. Don't worry that your left speaker isn't working at the start of each track - The Better World are one of few bands who make effective use of stereo, as is shown well in Eyes Of The Sun,a song of contrast and possessing an original opening riff.Diversity is evident within the alternative rock genre, from the power and vigour evident in TBW and Same Night to calmer and more reflective tracks such as Somebody Else or Time Travel. Talent is indisputable, from various innovative guitar melodies to the virtually faultless drums throughout.Although it may contrast the general consensus from the visitor poll, No Name has to be one of my favourite tracks, where The Better World have been willing to experiment, resulting in excellent interplay between the plucky screechy guitar and smooth bass/drum for the intro and verses. In conclusion, their claim that they "mix sounds that range from bands like the Goo Goo Dolls to Fuel, but taking it to a higher level" is quite well founded. I'd strongly recommend any fans of the genre to check out the available samples to see if you'd be interested in the CD..."
