The Bats Rise To The Top Again

"With 'Spill The Beans' you get 5 quintessential Bats songs - not too fast, not too slow - with songs that you'll be humming the rest of the day. If you haven't heard The Bats, imagine a happier REM mixed with a poppier Stereolab with the innocence of Johnathan Richman. This is my favorite Bats release as there isn't a loser in the bunch and the 5 song EP format keeps things short and sweet. (Robert Scott's vocals can become tiresome after a half hour, which is perhaps the only shortcoming of my 2nd favorite Bats release - Daddy's Highway - whose first 7 songs are even better than the 5 here on Spill The Beans, but which suffers from a weak b-side.) A great CD to discover real alternative pop music from down under (acually, New Zealand)."
