CD Reviews

Some of the most beautiful music I've heard

"yet also some of the most repetitive. Oldfield begins this CD with a tune which defines the movement of the massive whale through the deep ocean. It is dark, mysterious, and alluring. When Imogene Moore's vocals come in it is like heaven in the deep. This first piece, De Profundis, moves on majestically, reaching wave-like climaxes and then moves back down into its beautiful and familiar depths. Unfortunately, though, he introduces a pretty, but very typical new-agey arpeggio pattern which only trivializes what he had done before. Not only that, much of the end of De Profundis reiterates the other two pieces on the album. Or maybe we could say that the other two pieces are just long reiterations of movements within De Profundis. I would have liked to hear more flute, less new-age synths, but the good parts still make it worth listening to."
Ideal for Therapists

"This recording, voted "Album of the Year," features the voice of Imogen Moore in a haunting, hypnotic counterpoint to whale song and Terry's light and lovely instrumentation. It is a plea from the depths of the soul. I was introduced to this album while lying on a massage therapist's table and subsequently found it to be ideal for playing while I give Reiki treatments. It is a powerful tool for any bodyworker or therapist doing emotional release work. Yet it's mood is light enough for general relaxation or sleep inducement."
Can't live without it!

"My real life history with this CD: I first heard this CD in Israel where I was living at the time and getting treated by an awesome Chinese Medicine practitioner - her name was Lili and lived in Ramat Gan. The energetic healing sessions - as well as the spearment tea (te im nana) were awesome. The music (of Terry Oldfield) just took me away to that blissful place. I finally bought my own copy and played it at home whenever the mood struck me to relax, meditate and transcend my day to day problems and stress. Then I shipped it over when moved back to the states and though not exclusively, I used it often when I gave chi gong class overlooking the water in Florida. One day after a class, I couldn't find the cd in my player. Someone must have liked it so much that they actually stole it! I hesitated to accuse others but I frantically searched for it and there was no other explanation. As I write to you now, 6 years and another shipment later in California, the case to the original cd I bought in Israel has recently been reunited with me and is sitting plainly on the desk in front of me. Just to see it gives me an indescribable feeling of joy. I have thought about it many, many times - hearing the melody play in my head and wished I could actually play it in my CD player during all these difficult years. Only now, am I in a position to replace the CD. So today finally, that's exactly what I'm doing; I'm ordering a new one so that I can again reunite with a part of me that I am so fond of from long ago."
