Ten returns to the epic melodic rock sound

"Melodic rock masters Ten came roaring back in a big way in 2006 with their 8th studio album The Twilight Chronicles. This is a band that has never released what I would consider a sub-par album, but I got the sense that Gary Hughes & company were trying a bit too hard for commercial success with their last couple of albums. With the Twilight Chronicles, Ten gets back to the more epic approach of their Spellbound and The Robe albums.



While it may not have quite the same impact as The Robe, the Twilight Chronicles is still an impressive album. It's very much what you'd expect from Ten, but it incorporates some of the symphonic elements Hughes used on his Once and Future King epic and Bob Catley's solo albums. Ten is one of the best bands in the whole genre, and when they go for the epic approach, few bands even come close. The Twilight Chronicles has the standard AOR love song or two, but for the most part the songs are powerful melodic rockers.



I hold Ten to a higher standard than most other bands, and once again they have lived up to it. The Twilight Chronicles is sure to please Ten fans, as well as fans of the melodic rock genre.
