CD Reviews

Horrible!
Rochelle Picklesimer | Columbus, OH | 12/13/2006
(1 out of 5 stars)

"Okay, I didn't buy this from Amazon, and I'm surprised that there is not a review warning people away from this. I bought this from Best Buy, being that they had three Temptations CD's and this looked like the best collection of songs to me and it was reasonably priced. Well, people should be forewarned that these are not the ORIGINAL recordings. The music sounds cheesey and the voices are weathered. I had to skip over certain songs because they sounded so off-key. I love the original music .. but this is just really, really bad. Apparently they just recently re-recorded all of these songs and failed to mention that on the cover. Horrible .. I can't even enjoy this CD."
Not The Original Songs - Understand What You're Buying
A. S. Tilles | 11/01/2009
(3 out of 5 stars)

"It's a shame that the original reviewer was mis-led by the packaging. A close review of the back (which you won't see online) makes it clear that this is the "Original Lead Singers Of The Temptations." That's partially true. The CD features Eddie Kendricks, Dennis Edwards and Damon Harris, all former lead singers of the Tempts. For those that don't remember him, Damon Harris was a replacement for Eddie Kendricks's replacement, Ricky Owens. Damon performed on the original versions of "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)" (1971), "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" (1972) and "Plastic Man" (1973) amongst others, before splitting with the group. The balance of the performers are David Sea (misspelled "See") who tours with Edwards in the Temptations Review, Nat Evans and Charles Blackmon.

So, if you want to hear Eddie, Dennis & Damon doing Temptations hits, this is an ok CD. Remember, this was recorded not long before Eddie died from lung cancer. The musicians try to emulate the original tracks to the maximum extent possible, but its truly impossible to replicate the special sounds and echoes that came from the unique studio that was Hitsville.

Thus, all in all, it sounds much better than the Live In Las Vegas - 1991 CD that features Kendricks, Edwards and David Ruffin, but there's nothing here that will make you forget the original songs. And, that's the problem with this CD. Its nice to hear these guys sing great songs that made them famous (sans Ruffin), but since the band doesn't do anything different with the arrangements than the originals, its hard to find it special."
