"Now this is a classic. There are 7 songs on this great CD and every song is sung with the mastery, that only the Tempts could sing them with. I've waited a long time for this CD to be released. As I've said on other reviews about The Temptations, this CD shows the true greatness of the underated Damon Harris, and for me, opened my eyes, finally to the greatness of Dennis Edwards. Dennis sings his 'you know what off' on "Let Your Hair Down " and " You Set My Soul on Fire". Damon is excellent as usual, on " I need you " and he and Richard are great on " Heavenly ". Richard,Damon and Dennis are great on "Ain't No Justice " ,as well . I especially love the song entitled " Zoom ". It reminds of " Papa was a Rolling Stone " . They all seem to be having a lot of fun singing this song, and I have fun listening to them sing it. " 1990 " is a very underated, but great song too. Finally, let me add that the social messages are as important today as they were when The Temptations sang them. The entire CD is definetly worth five stars."

"I don't now why in the hell Motown took so long to issue this one. This is one of the best albums Norman Whitfield has ever done with any artist. For some reason the Tempts were getting tired of the "psychedelic soul" he was injecting in their music, even though he continued to pump out his from every artist he dealt with. Even though Whitfield worked with artist from Marvin Gaye,David Ruffin, to Rare Earth and did some landmark work with them all he was very controlling. To be honest I don't know what all the complaining was really all about regarding Norman because after he left the Tempts only one producer (Jeffrey Bowen) ever came close to matching the oustanding work he'd done with them. This was the last album that hed did withe Tempts' and they went out with a bang. All the songs are great and the remastering on this particular cd is some of the best I've ever heard. The voices like most Temptaion albums flow back and forth and you can hear it so clearly through the speakers (especially if you have good ones). I don't play this album so much as I use to when I fisrt bought it because once listening to it you have hear the whole thing, its that great. My favorites if I had to choose would be all of them, but I guess if I had a gun to my head I would have to go with "You've Got My Soul On Fire" and "Heavenly". Again nothing but the best from the great Temptations and their super producer Norman Whitfield. Now if Motown can just remaster and reissue the rest of the Norman Whitfield produced albums from the Tempations(Wish It Would Rain to Masterpiece). I know Motown were pumping out a lot of hits back in the day, but come on and give up the goods on some of those great albums.

I Can Finally Retire My 8-Track!!

"This is a tremendous album. I have been a long time fan of Edwards and Damon, who I always felt gave Ruffin and Kendricks a run for their money, and this album demonstrates their superior vocal skills. Now, for my money, "All Directions" (feat. 'Papa was a Rolling Stone') and "A Song for You" (feat 'A Song for You', 'Memories') were better overall albums track for track, but that's like saying I prefer Lexus to Mercedes. Where I actually prefer this album to any Temps album is the tenor of the messages in the lyrics, artfully reflected in great vocals with a music score that is intelligent, and not overblown (sometimes I feel that current artists don't understand that, often, less is more). I was pleasantly surprised, and encouraged, by what I see as an effort by some record labels to finally begin to fill some of the disgraceful gaps in album reissues in the R&B genre. "Greatest Hits" compilations can never, NEVER do justice to reflecting the concepts that are instilled in true album releases. Good for you, Guys. Keep it up!!!!"

"I grew up listening to The Temptations, and I bought his album when it was initially released. I was never a fan of the radio hits "You've Got My Soul On Fire" and "Let Your Hair Down." They aren't bad songs, but for me they just didn't live up to their previous hits, or some of the hits that followed on the album "A Song For You." But the rest of the tracks on "1990" more than make up for the shortcomings of those two tracks. "Heavenly" is a smooth a love ballad as you'd ever want to hear, and is equaled by "I Need You." "There Ain't No Justice" is an excellent social commentary. "Zoom" and "1990" both could have been hit singles, in my opinion. Overall, "1990" is a disc worth having, and it's about time this one was released on CD."

"This album was slammin' from beginning to end. "Heavenly" was definitely without a doubt the jam on here. This album also had a political message as well. Norman Whitfield was the man far as producing went on this project. I'm glad i was finally able to track it down on cd."
