"This is a selection of short pieces performed by Madgeburg Baroque Orchestra and Choir under Lothar Hennig. This is actually much better music than one might expect - interesting to hear Telemann's take on a more small scale and conservative genre of music than the cantatas and oratorios that are (relatively) better known. The doubling of texts (sopranos singing one text, ATB another beneath it) is particularly effective in these pieces, and the choice of texts takes one back before the Brockes era to the world of Schutz and Schein. Printed texts are in German (and once in Latin) only. The only minor irritating thing about the release was that in came in one of those cardboard bijou boxes that have being getting fashionable over the last few years. Cute but not robust. Anyway, alround a nice addition to a Telemann/Bach collection."
