Tear For Fears: Everybody Loves A Great Album

"This is just good material that gets back to the basics for any band. Good lyrics, catchy hooks and chorus, lots of instruments, good production. I bought this album after it was referred to me by the CD shop owner. He knew I went after ELO, Steely Dan, Beatles music and said "Hey, if you like good guitar music with catchy words and rythm, try this Tears For Fears CD." Man, was he right!
The beginning song "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" simply opens the album with high regards and anticaption for a world of feel-good music. It's almost comparable, if possible, to that of the "Srg. Pepper" opening- very strong, upbeat, a bold welcoming to a good album. The same vibe is almost felt here!
"Closest Thing To Heaven" is a mellow, crafty song that molds good words with a subtle harmonic chorus. This is material that could be close to TFF's previous material from the late 80s and early 90s.
"Call Me Mellow" is irresistably catchy and done well with sticky lyrics. A nice-drive song with suitable guitar riffs following in the back!
"Size Of Sorrow" is smooth sounding as was "Closest Thing To Heaven" but still holds its own on the track as the harmonies and chorus steal the show for this track.
Then comes "Who Killed Tangerine", a very patterned song that strolls like a roller coaster with its ups and downs in vocals and sudden tempo changes. Good material to keep the albums momentum going. "And when you think it's all over, it's not over," swarms at the end of the song in a winding repeat and done appropriately well.
"Secret World" is one of the stand outs for the album as well. Very good sounds on the trumpet solo accompanied with violins throughout the song.
The album holds these mentioned songs that I'd rate 5 out of 5. The other songs are followed with 4 to 4 1/2 as this whole project was hard to distinguish strong efforts in the studio versus good singles. "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" may have been a long time coming for Tears For Fears but overproduction was not a threat to the sound of this album. The instruments were utilized well and the right vocal arrangements made this album even more appealing. The album cover, itself, is commercial enough for what to expect when listening to this. Alot to see in the cover artwork. Alot of details and color patterns. Exactly what you get on this album. Alot of sounds and very impressive performance for Tears For Fears! It's hard to find material like this as I'm always on the search for great music and this one is always in my car player for the road."
