"Having searched for Heifetz CD's, I quickly found the answer. Naxos has created a great recording with an inexpensive price. Although there are other recordings of the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius with Heifetz, the CD also includes a great performance of Wienawski. Being one of the earlier recodrings, it shows the musicality and maginificent technique of Heifetz. Even with its age, the music quality is still good and is still considered one of the greatest recordings of the Sibelius violin concert. This is a great CD to buy."
Tchaikovsky would be worth the price on his own

"With arguably the greatest violinist ever born, and certainly one of the finest violin concertos in Tchaivovsky's, the listener is assured magic. The second movement is absoloutely to die for, but the third takes a while to live up to the expectations you have by then. The Wieniawski concerto is moody and interpreted well, and Sibelius' violin concerto is also magnificent. But Tchaikovsky steals the show for me, hands down.As for the sound quality, it has that authentic, cosy glow to it that you only get with older records, and the slight fuzz is forgotten during the music playing."

"Beautifully played by Heifetz, these concertos are among the most well known for the violin. The Tchaikovsky concerto is definitely worth the money alone, and the Sibelius concerto is a keeper. Wieniawksi's concerto is also very beautifully played, this cd definitely worth the six bucks."
Tchaikovsky great, but Sibelius is the keeper.

"I have scant formal education in Western Art Music, but I know what I like, and it's the Sibelius Concerto in D on this disk. I have several recordings of this piece, but none done with the technical brilliance and emotive power that Heifetz brings to it. The third movement, in particular, brings a catch to the throat, and a wave of joy every time it's heard. It's really hard to believe that the beautiful, clear and crisp pieces on this disk were were recorded in the mid '30s. Do not hesitate, press the "buy" button now, and you'll not be disappointed. Heifetz truly puts all other modern Violinists to shame on this disk."
Get this CD no matter what it takes!

"One of the great violin discs of all time: three masterpieces played with extraordinary beauty and flair by the legendary Jascha Heifetz. The transfers are very good, so the 30s performances are distinctly listenable; the playing of Heifetz is so renowned it almost doesn't need introduction. The Tchaikovsky is well done - especially the moving slow movement - but the Wieniawski is also gloriously played, in fact the best performance of the work ever. It is exceptionally beautiful! Listen for the lyrical theme in the center of the first movement. And the Sibelius - in what I think is the first recording of the concerto ever made - receives a performance just bursting with passion and romantic fire.
Buy this CD no matter what it takes - even if you have to order internationally. It's one of the greatest violin recordings of all time."
