Solti and Tchaikovsky

"Solti is a masterful conductor of Tschikovsky and his rendition of these works is powerful. I would recommend this CD as a good initiation into the ballet suites of Tschikovsky. My only complaint, does not concern the music, but the program notes. Since the music is also used in the ballet, I would have liked to have had more information concerning not only the ballet itself, but what action takes place during each particular movement. In addition, it would have been helpful to have movements titled in English as well as French. For instance, Valse des fleurs ("Dance of the Flowers") is pretty easy to figure out, but Dance de la Fee Dragee or Danse des Mirlitons are less obvious to the average listener."
Ballet Music to Enjoy.

"Another older recording, yet one in which the CSO plays without peer. Solti knows this music and the orchestra enjoys palying it. Swan Lake is the best."
