Tarun Bhattacharya studied with Shivkumar Sharma, 'the father of Hindustani classical santur' and Ravi Shankar, and plays santur with superb technique and a disciplined exuberance in melodic and rhythmic interplay. Raga Gujari Todi is a morning melody with a unique, rather transcendental quality, and is known for its devotional and serious, yet gentle, emotive power. The Bhairavi thumri is given a dance-like lilt by the six-beat dadra tal, and incorporates ideas from various thumris and other light genres.
