CD Reviews

What the... ???

"Made in USA in 2004, Serial# WOU-521, Playing Time 39:21Do you have the vinyl pressing of this on Elektra? Well, congratulations!!! At least you have 9 tracks. This re-issue still leaves us with an incomplete soundtrack to the movie (will SOME record company finally do a decent job of this?)On the bright side, the music playing during the ending credits of the film is here (Craig Safan's "Confrontation"), but this time, we lose "Beach Scene", the 7-minute extrapolation of the opening track "Beach Theme"... and it's certainly not because the disc is full!!! Why wasn't the rest of the film's music (even if not composed by TD) not included here ?This is the 3rd edition of this soundtrack on CD (1985, the 1995 "definitive edition" (oh, please...it even says "live" on the spine?!?), and now this 2004 version).I'm about "this close" to buying the DVD and editing the soundtrack myself... is anyone interested? LOL"
To Add and to Drop - WHY?

"For those who were fortunate enough to aquire one of the first two releases of the THIEF soundtrack (like myself) congratulations - you have the version of the CD that contains the best song on the soundtrack, Beach SCENE. It has been dropped for this US release.

For those who were interested in obtaining the Thief soundtrack being mainly interested in the one song, Beach SCENE (most of the other songs can be found on other Tangerine Dream albums), please realise the following differences between Beach THEME and the now dropped, Beach SCENE.

The song, Beach THEME is a much shorter track (almost by half) and there is a very cheesy, acoustic, "rock n' roll", drum beat that was mixed/dubbed over the original Beach SCENE song which has the much more mellow and less invasive electronic, sequenced drum beat in it. It's Beach SCENE that was both heard in the movie and over the airwaves back in 1981. If that is the song you remember (fell in love with) and are looking for, do NOT buy this latest release. Keep looking for those Out Of Print CDs - they are out there.

On a lighter "note", it's very nice to see they added the ending/end-credits song, CONFRONTATION.

This is a lose/win scenario for THIEF soundtrack fans - it all depends on which song is more important to you. If you already have the earlier releases with Beach SCENE on it then buying this latest version will now complete a defninitve soundtrack for them as that last song in the movie has now finally been added to the official soundtrack."
Nice to finally have, but.......

"It's great that someone finally released this version on CD but it's a day late...I already compiled music from this disc, the import disc, and from the Tangerine Dream disc "Force Majuere" into my own version of the "complete" soundtrack of Thief. It turned out great. I'd love to just give copies of it away to anyone willing to pay for the shipping but I don't know if that's a good idea. I'm fed up with tracking down out of print albums and CD's on Ebay for $40 - $80 per bootleg disc. I think someone should put a stop to all the bootlegging and start giving this stuff away! I've got a killer "Manhunter" compilation that I'd love to just give to people for free (all shipping fees would have to be paid for) just so I can try to put a stop to all this overpriced bootlegging going on. Just yesterday a bootleg of "The Keep" sold on Ebay for over $90.00--if I ever get my hands on a copy of this disc I would be more than happy to give it away to any interested parties!

Give me your thoughts!
