"Imagine my disappointment that this album had NO REVIEWS written. This joint has a few weak spots, but the strong songs more than make up for them. Does it really get any better than Taj Mahal singing Langston Hughes??? Come on now people. Some of these songs are so touching, poetic, and sincere, they will bring tears to your eyes. The song Crossing is straight up one of the best blues songs ever. The song Rode Some conjures up spiritual triumph in the face of oppression. Me and the Mule is a simultaneously humorous, defiant, and stinging. Pure genius, a touchstone for generations of suffering, survival, and community. More proof that Taj Mahal may be the most underrated bluesman of our time."
