"This is a very good black metal album with the totally classic Bathory-style vocals and the old-school Scandinavian sound. While raw and uncompromising, it's also got the professional-sounding production values that a big metal label like Century Media can provide. It's pretty much no-frills; no keyboards or clean vocals or acoustic passages. That said, Taake are competent muscians--lots of neat guitar and drum work here--and (at least on this album) they exhibit a propensity for long songs (not long in a bad way, though) that feature a lot of interesting shifts and tempo changes. In other words, this isn't your standard blast-beat/white-noise stuff. It isn't predictable or formulaic in that sense; it's distinctive and unique while remaining true to the core values of the genre. Highly recommended for fans of the "true Norwegian black metal" sound. Should appeal to fans of Gorgoroth, Marduk, Immortal, Craft, etc."

"This,along with the releases this year from Funeral Mist,Deathspell Omega and Behexen,ranks among the better black metal albums.Taake has matured and has this eerie,viking vibe to them now more than ever.Very evocative black metal, well arranged and the riffs are amazing!If you're a fan of the bands I mentioned,you'll really like this.DIO FOREVER!!!!!!"
