The symphony is daring, inventive and uncompromisingly intellectual. However, what is truly astonishing is the Elegy; the CD is worth buying just for this track. I found the Elegy more powerful and more affecting than the Barber Adagio, if we're to use yardsticks. Unsuspecting visitors to my flat are subjected to it without exception -- so far, I've had 100% approval!"
