"Every year I nominate my own CD of the year among all CDs I purchased, and this towering performance of 9th is definitely the one in year 2008 and I would like to award even 7 stars.



Svetlanov generates enormous power and maximum emotional intensity by allowing every part of the score battling out with each other for expressive supremacy. The result is utterly electrifying and a revelation, revealing the complexity of Mahler's orchestration like you never experienced before! Inner two movements are amazingly vivid and exciting. Two outer movements are uncompromisingly wrought and could not be more eloquent and profound.



Played by Russian State SO : DDD rec. 1992 (sound quality is top class with plenty of presence and huge dynamic range). This is a must-buy for anyone who is not satisfied with conventional interpretations, and highly recommendable alongside Svetlanov's monumental recording of 2nd and 3rd on the same label."
