Not as good as his later readings of Bruckner's 7th

"I am a big fan of Eugen Jochum, but this Seventh is nowhere near as revelatory as his later two readings. Compared to those, he kind of sounds amaturish and wayward in this reading from 1939. The sound is kind of boxey, but better than I expected. His late 60's version is light years ahead of this, but it still might be a curiousity to see how different this is from that one. I hate to bad mouth Jochum because he and Karajan are my favorite conductors of all-time, but stick with the later ones because they are interpreted better and in much better sound."
