"Although this recording was described in the past as Symphony No. 1, it is in fact Symphony No. 10. It is however another example of the powerfully emotional performance Kondrashin could draw from the works of Dmitri Shostakovich. The recordings of Shostakovich's works conducted by Kondrashin are always a deeply emotional listening experience. I never heard the 10th Symphony before, and because of the impact of listening to this recording I can't picture a more rewarding listening experience of this work. Dmitri Shostakovich worked with Kondrashin on the performances of his symphonies. I feel that trust was rewarded in the way Kondrashin conducted the works intrusted to his extrodinary talent."
