"This CD offers an excellent recording of the energetic and complex Symphony No. 1. The first two movements are very good, dramatic, and bold. They sound like something typical of Russian music from this period (1920's-30's). To me, this symphony is influenced by Prokofiev and Scriabin (last movement sounds like Scriabin's Poem of Ecstasy). The second symphony is less substantial and sounds like nationalistic soviet era film music going from the sufferings of the peasants to the triumph of the "motherland". Overall, if you enjoy Soviet music from this era, there is much to like by this composer."
