Amazon.comHaydn's "Paris" symphonies are less well known than the slightly later "London" symphonies, but not for any particular reason. Here are three of the "Paris" symphonies, 79 minutes of absolutely splendid music, filled with originality, surprises, beauty, charm, virtually everything you'd ever want out of great music. The performances seem like the best ones we've ever heard on period instruments, not only well played and balanced, but filled with energy and high spirits. Considering the quality of the music, the performances, the superb recorded sound and the length of the program, this (slightly) premium-priced import is still a bargain. --Leslie Gerber
