Product DescriptionBorn in 1964, Stefan Sanderling became General Music Director of the Brandenburgische Philharmonie and the Potsdam Opera in 1990, making him one of the youngest conductors to be appointed to such a position. Receiving early artistic inspiration from his parents, noted conductor Kurt Sanderling and double-bass player Barbara Sanderling, Stefan studied at the Leipzig Conservatory under the watchful eye of Kurt Masur, going on to assist in Hallé and at the Komische Oper Berlin. His conducting career started with the Tanglewood Music Centre Orchestra at Tanglewood Summer Music Festival, which enabled him to work with such eminent names as Bernstein, Ozawa, Slatkin, and Temirkanov. Since his appointment at Potsdam, he has conducted many fine orchestras, including Dresdener Staatkapelle, Berliner Sinfonie Orhcestra, Royal Philharmonic, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Orchestra, and the Prague Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.
