Synopsis

Album Description
Sylvano Bussotti (b. 1931) has long been considered one of the most controversial of all contemporary composers, obeying no rules and subscribing to a sort of musical anarchism. He is best known for his wildly theatrical works for which he has coined the term "Bussottioperaballet," so it is all the more intriguing to come upon an album of music for the harp! Composed in 1962, Fragmentations is unique in that one performer plays two instruments, each tuned differently. Labirinti, written 1987-1992, was dedicated to Alain Danièlou, painter, musicologist, philosopher, and writer; it is an outstanding example of Bussotti's ability to create and bring to the fore subtle shades of tone color and sophisticated ideas. Born in Florence, Italy, Bussotti became director of the famed Teatro la Fenice in Venice in 1975.
