"In 2003, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebrated 25 years of gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and queer culture. During the month of february, we get to throw off the shackles of homophobia and celebrate ourselves. This double CD is the official CD release of the Mardi Gras. The first CD contains mardi gras anthems and music from 'yesteryear'. The oldest song (showing out by Mel and Kim) is from 1985, with most of the music being modern 1990+ dance tracks, including the ubiquitous gay aussie icon Kylie Mingoue with an extended remix of 'On a night like this'. Also included is a modern dance version of U2's 'Pride' by Clivilles and Cole and Chain Reaction - a modern version of the Diana Ross hit performed by the UK group Steps. So this first CD is quite a mixed bag, but it is very enjoyable listening and (mostly) avoids the usual cheesy 'gay' anthems that are often found on CD's such as this. The second CD contains recent dance music - after the retro feel of disc one, it's time to stand up, be proud and have fun!!! Very uplifting with a positive vibe throughout, this second CD can be played at parties, at home, or anywhere where you want to have fun! Or just play it for total escapism from the usual pressures we endure in everyday life.If you're into dance music I'd recommend getting this CD to not only relive past dance music, but also rejoice and celebrate our diversity as not only apart of queer culture, but also as human beings."
