CD Reviews

Above-average electronic metal
Graveyard Scum | the vortex | 11/11/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"These guys are like a cross between Fear Factory and Meshuggah, with tight precision rhythms and electronic effects. There are moments when they sound almost dead-on like Meshuggah, but there are enough other elements mixed in to keep it from being a wholesale ripoff. The grooves are tight and somewhat polyrhythmic and often surprisingly melodic. These are mixed with drawn-out, Fear Factory-style choruses - not my favorite aspect of this album, but by no means bad. Vocals are of the scream/sing/scream variety. When he's growling and there aren't too many effects on his voice the singer really sounds a lot like Jens from Meshuggah. The clean singing reminds me of Soilwork, only more processed. My one complaint about the production on this CD is that between the effects on his voice and the effects in the background it makes the vocals kind of mushy and obscures what he's saying. Otherwise the sound is very professional, thick and heavy with a clean high end, wielding both power and precision. There aren't a lot of bands out there who play this style this well, so if that's what you're into don't pass this up."
Lots of Potential, but not all that memorable

"I listened to this CD before I bought it, and I was really excited. It sounded like a mix of Fear Factory and Crossbreed. The more I play it...the more it kinda bores me. The songs seem a little long, so the punch is lost. To be honest, I haven't really given it more than 5 spins...but from what I can tell, it's got some great riffs and electronic sounds...yet it just doesn't stay with you. If you love FF, then maybe check them out...but don't rush out and spend $14 hoping for the next best thing."
Electronic metal!!!!

"just got this cd in the mail yesterday (preordered it). i was hoping it would be a good as the 2 singles i had heard from their website (www.sybreed.com) - and i was not disappointed!!

great metal with a strong electronic edge. probably would go over well with fans of fear factory and raunchy...good use of synths to add depth and mood to the songs. the vocals really jump out at me - great range and power in the singer's voice...

if tracks like "rusted" and "bioactive" don't make you bob your head up and down like a jackhammer - then you're not a metal fan!!!

if you want hard hitting metal with electronic textures - pick this up right away...you will not be disappointed!"
