Sy Oliver was one of the most interesting arrangers in jazz history, and this CD showcases what he did with his own orchestra. The arrangements are diverse and fascinating. His vocals -- both alone and with a trio -- are about as cool as can be. Most of these cuts are from the early 50s, and the sound is excellent. I listened to the CD all the way through and then listened to it again four or five times."
