"Anyone who is interested in rare western swing music should strongly consider SWINGING WEST. KRAZY KAT compiled a fine single disc of rare music for western swing fans. While the sound on these recordings is not always first rate, the age, rarity, and amount of songs more than make up for this. This cd contains songs with a more traditional, raw sound than more slickly produced artists (i.e. Spade Cooley). Well worth the price."
Amazing western swing oldies!

"A fun, collection of obscure California country artists, mostly recording for microscopic labels. The best known artists on here are Jimmy Wakely and Tex Williams; cheapo label veteran Doye O'Dell has one great track on here, standing at the head of the pack along with his unknown brethren. During the first third of this CD, the throughline seems to be "artists who couldn't quite keep in meter," but things pick up midway with several great little singles that oughtta make you smile. An interesting aspect of this scene was that *everyone* used accordions in their bands, which was somewhat common elsewhere, but not nearly so prevalent as in the Golden State. Cool stuff."

"Really worth it. The songs are fantastic and the singers rip into the stuff. The instrumentals are excellent. If you like Western Swing (and who doesn't?) this is one for the collection."

"I believe the music in this CD evolved to become Jazz, Rockabilly, Hillbilly and Rock'n'Roll music in the decade which followed it. It it obvious that so much music which followed this, has been influenced by it. The steel guitar popularity of the time is there, and it really is like acupuncture for the brain. I think this generation "had it" more that we realize."
