I Love The Supremes....ALL of The Supremes

"First things first, do not look at this compilation expecting to hear the original Motown hits (that means Diana and Jean singing "Baby Love" and "Stoned Love"). Despite the moniker on the cover, these ladies are a trio known as "The Former Ladies of The Supremes." The group now features two former members of the legendary group, Scherrie Payne (the petite brunette on the left) and Lynda Laurence (the taller blonde in the center).
This 3 CD anthology is a collection of songs recorded by this group that had been touring and recording since 1986. The third woman on the cover is Sundray Tucker, Lynda's sister, and almost an original Supreme herself! Despite the photo on the set, recordings from the "Jean, Scherrie, and Lynda" days are also featured as well as a live recording by the current line-up, featuring singer, Freddi Poole. This collection is a series of Supremes re-recordings of the 60's and 70's (from "Where Did Our Love Go?" to "You're My Driving Wheel"), as well as re-recordings of popular R&B recordings ("I Still Believe," "The Colours of Love," "First Time On A Ferris Wheel" etc.)
Stand-out tracks include the hilarious acapella "He's My Masser" (a humorous take on The Supremes' 1975 disco classic "He's My Man"), the live recording of "Jean, Scherrie, and Lynda" singing "How Do You Keep The Music Playing?" at the Dominion Theatre in 1990, and a rare track! Cindy Birdsong's solo single "Dancing Room" is featured on the first disc. (Interestingly, the original "Supremes regrouping" initially did feature Cindy, but she left to record this song as well as a few others.) True these ladies may not exactly be what you expected, but they are wonderful women all possessed of amazing singing voices. Please just give them a fair chance!"
For the price - it's excellent!

"Ok so it's not the original recordings BUT at least the collection features two of the 8 genuine Supremes who are still performing today. There's a great mix of songs here - not just covers of the old gold hits but more modern songs like Stop To Love, Sweet Freedom, Feel Like Makin' Love and lots more. I really enjoy this whole collection though a few more photos of the ladies on these tracks would have been a big bonus."
