The "Perfect" Recording

"Sir Neville Marriner leads his Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in a blockbuster recording of eight of Franz von Suppé's exciting overtures. From the more famous ones, such as Light Cavalry and Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna, to lesser known works, this CD is full of unforgettable melodies and suberb playing. The recording is first class in every way; I honestly do not believe any improvement can be made over the engineering. The percussion and brass sections are particularly exquisite. The balance is perfect and the recording is full and gives the feeling that they are in the room infront of the listener. As this is a bargain CD, the literature is limited, but each overture has its own synopsis, and there is a miniature biography for both the composer and the conductor. The dictionary does not contain a superlative worthy of defining this recording! And for merely six dollars, how can one go wrong? Very, very highly recommended; a must for classical music aficionados."
