Off the radar awesome funk

"This is a great way to sample a large range of funk. This is REAL funk, besides the same James Brown and George Clinton songs you've heard over and over. Not to say that those two guys aren't important to how funk came about but they are just the snowflake at the tip of the iceberg. This collection (and I highly recommend the second collection as well) will give you a feel of what exists under the tip of the iceberg. Great, great selection and hours of stellar off-the-radar funk. Do yourself a favor and discover funk once more."
A very rewarding listen!

"this double cd is packed with soulful funk and funky soul. every track is good, if not great; no skippers. the booklet also contains background info on all of the artists. this compilation introduced me to many obscure talented bands. even experienced vinyl diggers will find a few new gems among this album's 37 songs."
Great set, but BEWARE: Incorrect tracklist above!

"
A fabulous set of tunes from that era, in great audio. HOWEVER:
There are nine tracks listed on the slipcover which are NOT on this set.
Stranger, the slipcover list does not match the tracklist printed on the J-card.
Even worse, the tracklist on this Amazon page also has the incorrect lineup!
Here are the corrections:
Disc 1:
9. Joe "Cornbread" Thomas - Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
is actually "Big" Al Downing / Cornbread Now
11. S.O.U.L. - The Jones (Part 1)
is actually Ripple / A Funky Song
15. Richard "Groove" Thomas - Flyjack
is actually Gloria Taylor / Grounded (Part 1)
18. O'Donel Levy - Bad Bad Simba
is actually Charles Rouse / In A Funky Way
Disc 2:
1. Patti Jo - Make Me Believe In You
is actually The Meters / Live Wire
10. Dawson Smith - I Don't Know If I Can Make It (Part 1)
is actually Joe Tex / Wooden Spoon
13. Ramon Morris - Sweet Sister Funk
is actually Brightlights / Motor City Funk (Part 1)
15. General Crook - Fever In The Funkhouse
is actually Bettye Lavette / Do Your Duty
16. Reuben Wilson - Superfly
is actually Larry Ridley / Well, You Needn't
I'm very surprised that no one else has pointed this out in the previous reviews, because somebody seriously FUBR'd this set.
Just make sure you're not buying this set for a track which isn't actually included!"
