CD ReviewsBarrels of fun! LGwriter | Astoria, N.Y. United States | 12/22/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "This is Sunpie's most recent (third) CD, and while he does repeat one track (Loup Garou) from a previous album, the other 11 tracks are new. Originally from Arkansas, he settled in Louisiana and took to the culture there like a proverbial duck to water. His music is amazingly eclectic and you can tell he has a whole lot of fun playing it, with the able assistance of his group the Sunspots on trumpet, bass, drums, guitar, accordion, and percussion. Sunpie sings and plays a wicked harmonica. He covers all kinds of material--from the slow, chilling blues track "Gravel Hill", to the bouncy Afropop of "Kinshasa", to the islands music-inflected "Lah Lah Song", to the Mexican polkaish "La Cancion".His interest in the great range of world music is what makes this album so enjoyable, as well as his deep rich vocals and the overall upbeat feel of the album. Lots of fun!"
