A noisy, flawed gem

"Valentines is comprised of mostly noisy guitar-bass-drums numbers, a similar setup to Torch of the Mystics, but a lot less accessable. If it were recorded better, it might be a better record ultimately, as much of what's going on you can't really hear too well. The major exception to this (and, in my opinion, the best track on the album) is "Sev Acher," a mellow eastern-flavored number which, while not the best fidelity, lacks the ultra-noise distortion of the other tracks. If you can penetrate the sheer walls of noise, "Black Tent" is intense and compelling, "On The Sign" is danceable (!), and the rest provide for an interesting, if difficult, listening experience."
