Huge Historical Significance; the Music is Good

"This is definitely a good CD. It's hits from the Sugarhill Gang, whom many musical historians have designated as the first rappers. Or maybe it's that "Rapper's Delight" has been thought of as the first rap song? Rapper's Delight kicks off this album, and it's very catchy, chock full of creative lyrics [unlike today's swear-filled rap records] that make for a funny song. The full version, which is here, is very long. The rest of the disc shows itself very much a product of the times in which the songs were written, the early 80s. That's fine, but it's just that a number of the raps don't really have the flow I usually associate with rap. So the record ultimately didn't impress me enough for 5 stars. Good stuff tho, definitely worth 4."
Hip Hop at it's best.

"& very upbeat.
According to wikipedia, Rappers Delight was not the first song that *featured* rap, BUT(as they neglect to mention)it is the first rap song that hit the radio waves.
Back when rap first started, the songs weren't considered original because they often used music pieces from other songs as background music no matter how thoughtful the rap lyrics were--thank goodness times have changed. I think Rolling Stone was way off in putting this at #248 in their greatest songs of all time.
Had it not been for Rapper's Delight (US Release), I'm not sure there would be rap today.
I give it 4, not 5 stars because, IMO, it's not a complete CD like The Sugar Hill Records Story, which includes
