CD Reviews

Bringing back memories of Myrtle Beach
Charlie Fisher | Atlanta, GA | 08/20/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"SugarCreek rocked the East Coast for 16 years. They played hundreds of gigs every year. They made it to the semi-finals of Ed McMahon's Star Search. Catch their music, it will bring back the 80's. They OWNED the Magic Attic in Myrtle Beach and electrified the South's biggest teen club for a dozen years. The band had a road crew that was almost as famous as the band, Tally Fisher, Gray Peck, John Gilreath, Ronnie Hatley, Kevin, Charlie and the unforgettable "Bam-Bam" provided as much entertainment back stage as the band did onstage. The guys in the band are still running around in the Carolinas, catch them and they will perform a "Creek" hit for you. Rick Lee and Lynn Samples are in "Too Much Sylvia", Jerry West is in "The Band Of Oz" and Tim Clark is "Deja Vu" all over again."
An old Magic Attic DJ with his 2 cents worth

"I spent 90 nights straight working as the DJ at the Magic Attic in the summer of 85 and 86 (DJ name Chase). It was a pure pleasure working with these guys and seeing the magic they made on stage. I fondly remember the lines of people stretching a few blocks and lining up two hours early to get into the club. THAT is the power this band had on its fans.

I would play my music set from 7-830, then kill the lights, hit the fog machine and turn off the tarantula light before the guys hit the stage. They would play the first set to screaming fans and then I would come on with a 30 minute set at 10, then they brought down the house up until about midnight.

I went on to work in radio in Myrtle Beach and Nashville but seldom encountered a band with so much talent. Backstage we had a riot playing practical jokes on each other. Was that Brut after shave in the fog machine? Poor Tim hated that.

And of course, the highlight of my life was dressing up like an idiot while Tim belted out the lyrics to "Arthur Whiteside". I miss these guys and the fun we had. They provided the soundtrack for so many young people in the 80's and as we are now older, we can understand their value even more.

Tim, Rick and the rest of the guys, we miss you and are excited to be able to purchase this music and bring back the magic."
This CD brings back Myrtle Beach Memories

"From 1980 - 1987, Sugarcreek played at the Magic Attic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. They were a major draw to both the teenager and early 20's age group. Many people that spend a summer in Myrtle Beach during that time frame experienced their great sound. I was lucky enough to buy the Live at the Roxy and Fortune LPs in 1982 and the Rock The Night Away Tape in 1984. I recorded both LP's and lost them over the years. A few years ago, I pulled out the old tapes and burned them to CD. Unfortunately, I still longed for a perfect digital copy. Now it has finally happened and at an ideal price. If you are a Sugarcreek fan, buy it quickly and bring back the memories. I can only hope they reunite for a summer tour in Myrtle Beach. That would be like a trip to the past."
