CD Reviews

Yet another special edition
Artur Correia | São Paulo, Brasil | 05/20/2009
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Café Bleu is one of the greatest albums of the 80's. But I won't focus this review on the recording itself.

This edition comes in an "LP replica" cover (with the same size, not that wonderful mini-lp covers). It's very thick and heavy. One problem that I found, tough, is the fact that it isn't a replica of the original UK pressing. Instead, it seems to be a replica of some japanese edition. What I miss the most is the "Notes from Café Bleu" booklet that used to come in the original pressing. Instead, inside the wonderful cover, we just get an insert with lots of japanese text, along with the lyrics and the Capuccino Kid article in english (and full of typos). I also felt a little bit disappointed with the fact that the CD Label doesn't reproduce the original at all. It's just that blue label of the 2000 remaster series (actually, it's absolutely the same disc in another kind of cover, released 5 years later).

If you are a fan or a collector, it will surely be a great addition for you. But if you expect to have a reproduction of the original UK pressing, you'd better buy the "mini-lp" version instead. Or even better, that wonderful boxset called "Keeps on Burning"."
