(5 out of 5 stars)
"The Lindsays get a lot of flack for Cropper's apparent intonation, but maybe I'm blessed with soggy ears! At least things all sound in order on this cd. The is one part of No.5, very early on in the first mvmt., where things could perhaps be a bit cleaner, but, overall, the playing here in infectiously delightful.
I actually slightly prefer this to the Quatour Mosaiques Op.20, but of course they are two different soundworlds. The Lindsays appear a little more chamber-ish compared to the QM's "orchestral" sound. The first mvmts. of No.2 and No.5 I preferred in the Lindsay's hands (just because it's HIP doesn't mean it's better!).
I also like the Lindsays in Op.33, and I'm hoping to get them in Op.55. An Amazon reviewer gave their Op.54 a terrible review, so, it seems that with the Lindsays, if you know them and like them as they are, then you shouldn't hesitate. And even if you can't stand the Lindsays, I don't believe they always have this perceived problem, and I definitely can recommend them in Op.20 and Op.33, and hopefully in Op.55.
Perhaps I should give them four stars, but I'm giving them five because I really like this interpretation."
