CD Reviews

Creepy isolation and trippy solitude black metal
dormarth | heathen washington | 05/09/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Striborg is a one man band from Sin-nanna in Tazmania, Australia which is much like Washington state with massive lands of temperate rainforests of beatiful forests and snow capped mountains. This album displays interludes of cold and wierd passages which take you to strange places of drugged out paranoia and dark depressing isolation. You really feel the throes of this guy, and his lust for nature and hatred for mankinds pillage of the natural landscapes. The first album on this split is actually slower, creepier and more introspective. Striborg actually slowed down the tempo as the band matured, unlike most bands which start out great and then add blast beats to keep with the trends (dimmu borgir, satyricon) The latter and older album is full of free form blast beats and whisps of trebbled out white noise riffs that blend into heathen snow. Whats great about Striborg is that even with fast songs the mood and depth of his spiritual black metal are not compromised. Keyboards are used as interlude songs that display moods not ever found by any other black metal band. Its akin To Burzums last album but nasty, odd and very intreging. This man may not be the best musician but his music comes from a place not touched by other artists. Your soul will be twisted and taken into a void of wonder, pain, sorrow, and yet you will feel refreshed and connected with the astral plains through the vast mists of Tasmania."
