"Colin Davis is one of these conductors who have displayed with Stravinsky a meticulous but well detailed dissection of the minimum facets of Petrouchka with admirable conciseness, propulsive vitality and radiant exuberance. He confers the work of rhythmical tension, vehement expression and sheer energy. Besides, if you regard the expansive sound of the Concertgebouw you will obtain one of the priced, beloved admired and consecrated versions made in the last three decades.
Obviously its approach doesn't belong the same league of let's say Ansermet `s unsurpassed version of 1947 with the London Philharmonic or extraordinary readiong made by Markevitch but to be true this is a great and above the average version.
Le sacre is splendidly performed too although there are major versions (Markevitch, Fricsay, Dorati, Monteux and Michael Tilson Thomas).
A wise choice!
